Description
Cross Culture. How do we step or cross over into another culture, another way of viewing the world, of making sense of life? Is there a possibility that in the Christian family we somehow share the same "cross" culture? A culture of centering life in the symbol of the cross of Jesus Christ, centering our life in meanings which come through the deep sharing of one another's sufferings? Is there, in that sense, a culture we share? This experience may be a sharing so deep that it is beyond specific cultures, and at the same time so penetrating that it can be embodied fully by diverse cultural representations. 'Cross Culture' is a collection of sermons which attempts to take seriously the possibility that we have something to learn from one another. Global mission can and is preached in pulpits from Kentucky to Kenya in ways which help us look at the ever-new, yet eternal, Word of God. It assumes that pastors and laypeople everywhere are sources of theological insight and not just the consumers of others' work. Out of the movement of the Spirit of Jesus Christ and our life in the world, God works to love us, redeem us, empower us. These sermons share some of the insights gathered through personal experiences of that love, redemption and empowerment. 'Cross Culture' is intended for pastors who seek to share the vitality of the Spirit experienced in places far from the familiar. And it is intended for laypersons who welcome the rich gifts of the worldwide church. This book was written through a joint venture of the United Church Board for World Ministries of the United Church of Christ and the Division of Overseas Ministries of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). - from Amzon
